At All Saints we know everyone has different needs and talents. We invite you to sample our activities and organizations. Join one if you wish or help us create something new. Here is a small selection of what we have to offer.
May 20 Service and Parish Picnic:
Sunday, May 20, All Saints will join in worship with St. Helena's Episcopal Church, Burr Ridge at 9:30a.m. (7600 S. Wolf Rd., Burr Ridge). Following the service a joint picnic on their grounds will be held. St. Helena's will provide smoked meat. Please sign up in the Cloister to bring a salad, vegetable or dessert. You may call or email the church office as well.
NOTE: The regular 7:30a.m. Sunday Eucharist will be held at All Saints Sunday, May 20, however, there will be NO ADULT FORUM, Sunday School, or 10:30a.m. Service.
Stand Down for Vets :
There will be a "Stand Down" for homeless veterans on June 15 and 16 in Chicago. The VA Hospital Veterans Service Committee has invited churches to contribute to the event. Thevets need sleeping bags, summer shirts, shaving kits, athletic shoes and shorts, mosquito repellent, sun screen back-packs, etc. The clothes and shoes do not have to be brand new; good used clothes will always be helpful. We have seen more than one-thousand vets at past "Stand Down's". There is a box in the Cloister for donations.
Book Group:
By unanimous vote the re-scheduled book group gathering will take place Thursday, May 17th at the Stables home in Western Springs. The group will be discussing the first half of Timothy Keller's book "The Reason For God". There are a solid two weeks time to complete the reading so pick up a copy and "Go For It"!
Homeless Warming Center :
We are considering opening a warming center for the homeless. It would begin with the start of the new season of the B.E.D.S. program in the fall of this year. As a team, we will come up with ideas, but without your support the program will not get off the ground. We are asking for your opinions of adding this shelter ministry to our Outreach program. The warming shelter would be open on Saturday afternoons from 2:00-6:00p.m. The homeless would come in to get warm. We would provide a space for them to sit, releax, and have a cup of coffee, cookies, or other treats. Two parishioners would staff every week. We would follow rules setup by the B.E.D.S. program and , at the end of the day, prepare the parish hall for Sunday morning. You do not need to commit to anything, just let us know if you want to see a warming shelter open in the fall. You may pickup a comment form at the back of the church and place your thoughts in the offering plate or return to the church office. You can email your comments to allsaintsws@sbcglobal.net. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts about this possible ministry
Update: The rationale for a proposed warming center is to complement two existing programs: 1) a mornign warming center at the Congregational Church in LaGrange, which provides a warm place and two meals; and 2) the evening shelter on Saturdays at the Methodist Church here in Western Springs. Our center would "fill the gap" between the morning and overnight shelters. These services are used not only by adults, but also by children even as young as a few weeks old.
