At All Saints we know everyone has different needs and talents. We invite you to sample our activities and organizations. Join one if you wish or help us create something new. Here is a small selection of what we have to offer:
Annual Parish Meeting:
The Annual All Saints Parish Meeting will take place Sunday, February 1st following the 10:30a.m. service. We will celebrate our mission and ministry from 2008 and look foward to our work in 2009. Please submit annual reports, preferably via email, or in writing no later than January 15 to the parish office.
Seaman's Institute "Christmas At Sea":
Once again the opportunity to "knit" for giving through the Seaman's Institute is with us. Click here to see this years program information.
Recycle Cell Phones:
Church Women United is collecting old cell phones to benefit battered women and children. Phones do not have to be cleared-that will be done for us. Place phones (and charges and manuals if available) together in the box in the Cloister.
Book Group:
The All Saints Book Group will gather at the home of
B. Murgatroyd Thursday, January 22nd at 7:00 pm. This month's reading is Spiritual Depression: It's Causes and Cure, a collection of sermons by David Martyn Lloyd-Jones, former minister at Westminster Chapel. An uplifting book with a joyous message!
This enduring collection of twenty-one sermons by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, each originally delivered at Westminster Chapel in London, carefully and compassionately analyzes an undeniable feature of modern society from which Christians have not escaped—spiritual depression."Christian people," writes Lloyd-Jones, "too often seem to be perpetually in the doldrums and too often give this appearance of unhappiness and of lack of freedom and absence of joy. There is no question at all but that this is the main reason why large numbers of people have ceased to be interested in Christianity."
Believing the Christian joy was one of the most potent factors in the spread of Christianity in the early centuries, Lloyd-Jones not only lays bare the causes that have robbed many Christians of spiritual vitality but also points the way to the cure that is found through the mind and spirit of Christ.
In Memoriam:
A memorial fund has been established at All Saints Episcopal Church, Western Springs, IL to benefit Christi Couvillion Barringer's children Cassandra (14), Ashley (12) and Samantha (7). Contributions may be mailed to All Saints Episcopal Church, 4370 Woodland, Western Springs, IL 60558, Attn: Christi Barringer Memorial Fund.
Rocks, Scissors, Paper:
Forget the rocks - St. Gregory's needs scissors, paper and other school supplies! They can use any supplies you can think of. So now that the "back to school" sales are everywhere - stock up and put your gifts in the box in the Cloister.
"One-to-One" Malaria Net Challenge:
At the upcoming Diocesian Convention, Bishop Jeffrey Lee will challenge congregations to end malaria through the purchase of life-saving mosquito nets for families in Africa. The goal is for congregations to purchase nets through Episcopal Relief and Development's NetsforLife program so that every member of the diocese is represented by one net - a total of 40,000+ nets, and 40,000 lives saved.
2009 Calendars for the Seaman's Institute:
Calendars are beginning to "trickle" into homes in our parish. Save the ones you want/need and bring the others to church for sending to the Episcopal Seaman's Institute. A collection box is location in the Cloister.
All Saints Bridge:
Join the fun on Saturday afternoons. New ACBL sanctioned Duplicate bridge game, $5.00 open and $3.00 newcomers. For more information contact E. Nuellen. New Time/Location: 1:00pm Saturday's at the church. (No session Saturday, August 2, or Labor Day weekend).
